The Honor Level System is an incentive system designed to recognize students for good behavior. An emphasis is placed on teaching students to be responsible for their own actions and to strive to be responsible citizens. The incentives for appropriate behavior include prizes, food, field trips, assemblies, dances, and special events. Inappropriate behavior results in consequences and an accumulation of demerits. Demerits disqualify students from incentives and privileges.
All Star - No demerits
Honor Level One 1- 2 demerits
Honor Level Two 3- 6 demerits
Honor Level Three 7-13 demerits
All students begin the school year as ALL -STARS!
How does it work?
When a student fails to be safe, respectful, or responsible at school, a teacher or other staff member will issue a referral form to the student. Each infraction carries demerit points. The demerit points double when assigned by substitute teachers.
Minor infractions will result in one demerit point. The teacher will assign a consequence for the minor infraction. Students are expected to serve all teacher assigned consequences.
The Learning Director will handle infractions of a more serious nature. Each time students receive a medium or major infraction; they will receive an administrative consequence. This can include a series of lunch time or after school detentions, or assignment to the ALC room (in-school suspension). Certain severe discipline problems will be handled with immediate out-of-school suspension. Offenses of this nature will also lead to immediate assignment to Honor Level Three (suspension of all incentives and privileges).
The Student's Responsibilities
The Honor Level System requires students to be responsible for their actions. If students receive infraction slips, detention notices will be given and they are expected to serve the detentions the same or next day. The notices students receive will state the infraction, which staff member issued the infraction slip, and the type of consequence to be served.
IMPORTANT! If a student does not fulfill the responsibility of serving the consequence, the student will automatically receive the next consequence and five additional demerits.
Getting back to Honor Level One
If a student earns an infraction and drops to Honor Level Two, they can return to Level One in fourteen calendar days provided no additional demerits are assigned. The system is fair to all students and it rewards those students who demonstrate good school citizenship. The record keeping is computerized and lists will be posted on a regular basis.
Honor Level Privileges
All-stars (no infraction slips-minor or major - the entire year)
These students will have access to all privileges. There will be special activities and awards for these students throughout the entire school year.
Honor Level One (1 - 2 demerits)
These students will have access to all privileges (except those exclusively for "all-stars").
Honor Level Two (3-6 demerits)
These students will have access to limited privileges within a two week period.
Honor Level Three (7-13 demerits)
These students will be restricted from extra-curricular and other privileges while they remain at this Honor Level. They will not have access to any incentives while on this Honor Level. Upon return to Honor Level One or Two, restrictions will be lifted. Students who are on a sports team may practice with their team, but will not play in any games.

The Principal must recommend expulsion for the following:

The ALC is an in-house program to which a student may be assigned for all or part of the day when that student misbehaves in school. Our goal in establishing the alternative learning center is to allow teachers the ability to teach and other students to learn without disruptions. When a teacher has exhausted all classroom management strategies and a student continues to misbehave, stopping others from learning, that student will be suspended from that class by the teacher for the period and the same period the next day (Ed. Code 48910). All students will first report to the Student Services area in the main office. They will then be sent to the Learning Director before being admitted to ALC . A parent-teacher conference regarding the suspension shall be held before the student is allowed to return to class . Limited counseling services for students experiencing personal, academic, or behavioral difficulties will be provided or a referral to other agencies will be suggested. It is our goal to help students learn to be productive citizens of our school.
Additional referrals to ALC will result in out-of-school suspensions, parent conferences, and consideration of an alternative education program.
Any disruptions in the Alternative Learning Center will result in a referral to the Learning Director and 1 day out-of-school suspension.
![]()
All in-school suspensions (ISS) are held in the Alternative Learning Center. The ALC teacher will coordinate daily work with other teachers to insure that the student is held responsible for all assignments and does not fall behind. An equivalent assignment will be given by the ALC teacher if the day's assignment cannot be completed outside the assigned classroom. All students assigned to the ALC will not be allowed outside the classroom when the rest of the campus is outside. Students will eat breakfast and/or lunch inside the ALC. All students will be escorted to the restrooms.
